August 22, 2017Waboose31blog

Carol Jorgensen Scholarship for Environmental Stewardship Applications now being accepted
This scholarship provides funds to full time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in an environmental stewardship discipline, including environmental studies, natural resource management, the natural sciences, public administration, public policy, and related disciplines.  Deadline: September 30, 2017. Now accepting applications – click here for application criteria and specifics.

SAIGE established this award to honor the memory and legacy of Carol Jorgensen whose service to her family, community, country, and Mother Earth was an inspiration for all.

Carol was Tlingit from the Yandestake Village in southeast Alaska and was part of the Eagle/Killer Whale Fin House of Klukwan. She served many years in public service, and at the time of her passing, was the Director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s American Indian Environmental Office. She had a deep connection to our shared Earth and was a passionate advocate for protecting the environment and human health in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Silent Auction at the 2017 National Training Program. The funds raised there are used to provide these scholarships.

DOI “Consulting with Tribal Nations” Training Available in June

April 12, 2017Waboose31blog

PLEASE NOTE: This Tribal Consultation Training course will be held concurrently with the SAIGE NTP in the same location. It is a separate 3-day intensive with its own registration cost and process through DOI Learn. It is not offered as part of the SAIGE NTP. SAIGE is a cooperating partner that is offering to host this training at our contracted facility.

If you are a federal employee not employed by DOI, or are a tribal government employee, you can still attend this popular course. Please see the attached flyer with information on how to do this.

SAIGE is very pleased to coordinate with DOI University for this training at the We Ko Pa Resort and Conference Center this year. SAIGE looks forward to working more in the future with DOI and the National Indian Programs Training Center to encourage employees to get the important training they need to conduct business with tribes properly.

If you have any questions concerning this course, feel free to contact me at vice-chair@saige.org or April Gonzalez at the National Indian Programs Training Center, contact info on the flyer.
Thank you – Lori
