Lori Windle (Anishinaabe) is a citizen of the White Earth Nation enrolled in the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Instrumental in the development of SAIGE from an idea to a working organization, she was elected as the first Chairperson of the founding Board of Directors. She has since served as Vice Chair, Secretary and most recently as a director. She is a Lifetime SAIGE Member and has overseen the organizing of numerous SAIGE National Training Programs.
She has worked at the Department of the Interior’s (DOI) Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) as a video producer and American Indian Special Emphasis Program Manager for over 30 years. During this time, she originated and participated in development of a number of interagency training courses regarding the Federal American Indian Trust Responsibility, and Tribal Consultation policy, which resulted in several hundreds of employees being educated. Lori has received numerous career awards nationally and locally over the years.
Lori resides in Colorado where she was raised. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Metropolitan State University in Denver, and Master of Fine Arts in Media at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She has also done post-graduate work in Tribal Sovereignty and Federal Indian Law and won awards for her documentaries.
